Did you ever have that one celebrity you wanted to meet? That one celebrity that you would stand in line for hours just to say “your my favorite” if you had the chance? Most people never get that chance but fortunately for me the one person I wanted to meet also happens to own shares of a vodka company that he is the spokesperson for. Lucky for me, and my girls, that apparently when you’re a spokesperson you are expected to do bottle signings at local wine stores.
It’s no secret, anyone who knows me knows that Curtis Jackson (A.K.A. 50 Cent) is my favorite rapper. Yes, I listen to rap. I listen to a lot of different music but the music I love the most is the music that gets you on your feet. I also listen to Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble’, Beyonce’, Bieber...
I pass by a Wine & Spirits store every morning when I get my coffee and on one particular morning I noticed something new in the window and it happened to be a poster of 50 Cent. I kept meaning to stop back when they are open to take a photo of the poster and send it to my daughter but I never got around to it. One day, she has an away soccer game and walks by a Wine & Spirits store and she sends me a text that says “WE HAVE TO GO” with a picture of the poster. I never knew what the poster said exactly I thought it was just an advertisement for his vodka so I zoomed in and low and behold, time stopped for a moment and so did my breathing, 50 CENT is coming to our town, our local Wine & Spirits, for a bottle signing.
We are all fans, me and my four girls, my husband not so much. So we are all going....except Angela because she has a soccer game in West Chester. The first time ever in 14 years of watching my kids play soccer that I wish they would lose so she could come home. Ang was the only thing missing this very sunny, beautiful fall day.
My husband took the twins to a soccer game at 8:30 AM and shortly after that Maggie came in my room and said “mom, come on. You gotta get up you gotta get ready we have to go”. About an hour later we are out the door ready to see what this line for Curtis looks like. I’ll be honest when it comes to crowds I’m not a big fan I’m also not a big fan of waiting. In fact I do believe Curtis Jackson is the only person I would ever wait over 4 hours in line for unless it were my own kids of course, but then I wouldn’t have to wait would I ; )
As it turns out the line is not that bad we are about 50 people back and it is almost guaranteed that we will see him because we are pretty much at the front of the line. Keep in mind it’s about 10:15 AM and the signing is from 1-3 PM so Maggie and I have a little bit of time to stand around and kill. My husband drops the twins off after their soccer game around 12:30. The line has started to serpentine at this point and growing every second. They start to tell people to move up and the crowd goes crazy but it doesn’t really move much after that. At around 1:30 they let about 10-20 inside the store to start to form a line inside then it happened....A shiny Suburban with tinted windows rounds the corner, the window goes down and a cell phone comes out with a hand waving as Curtis Jackson records the crowd. (you can view it on his Instagram). That’s when I knew this was for real, this was really going to happen. For my 40th birthday I told everyone all I wanted was to meet Curtis Jackson. It’s a few years later but it’s actually going to happen. it is!
The girls and I are escorted into the inside line (yeeha!) and the line moves pretty steadily. We are next and I am getting very anxious like this is really gonna happen I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t know what to expect and neither did the girls. Curtis was taking photos with everyone and it was our turn Maggie went around the corner first, then me, then the twins. OMG! I said “if your really my ....you holla G-Unit” then he smiled and he asked if Olivia and Sophia were twins and I said “yes”. Maggie was talking to him and he took a selfie with her. After all the photos were done being taken I turned to him and told him about a show that I wanted him to produce and he laughed so we will see what happens. I gave him my business card with the show title on it and he took another picture with Maggie and the twins so you never know.
It was worth the wait and my girls agree. This is hands down one of my best days ever and 50 Cent was so nice to me and my girls!
Savor every moment even the ones that are hard to believe!
